I provide counselling to individuals that have faced adversity, chronic stress and those who have experienced trauma. Because everyone is unique, the approach to counselling will differ based on the clients’ needs, current circumstances and overall experiences. We work together to develop plans and goals. Counselling is not often linear, so assessing and reviewing our working relationship, goals, and overall process is an important part of our time together.
Please note that I am not able to accept counselling clients until 2024.

Questions about one’s mental health status and/or interpersonal functioning typically lead to requests for psychological assessment. Referral questions (e.g. why do I struggle in relationships and what could help me get along with others better?) are developed collaboratively and drive the assessment process. Psychological assessments include a clinical interview along with the completion of various forms, a written report and a feedback session. When appropriate and with permission, I collaborate with allied professionals (e.g. doctor) and/or relatives to gather data. A diagnosis may or may not result from this type of assessment. Recommendations related to how to improve things are always offered.
For Veterans, Canadian Armed Forces Members and RCMP: I am able to complete the psychological assessment portion of your Medical Questionnaire if needed.

Difficulties with learning, school achievement, attention and/or other developmental issues may bring about a referral for a psychoeducational assessment. Assessments of this nature seek to understand a child/youth’s learning and thinking profile in order to provide insight into their areas if strength as well as vulnerabilities. The process includes an interview with parents (for individuals under 18 years of age), several hours of psychometric assessment with the client, the gathering of data from collateral sources (e.g. report cards), a written report and feedback. If warranted, a diagnosis will be provided and evidence based recommendations are always included. Psychoeducational services are provided for individuals aged 6 and over.
Please note that I have specialized training in school neuropsychology which assists me in being more broad in what I can offer in learning assessments. I am able to utilize measures that are less common in traditional psychoeducational assessment and this assists with more specific conclusions and recommendations.

Often, our subjective and internal experiences don’t fit neatly into categories. This approach allows the flexibility to include aspects of psychological and psychoeducational assessment to give a clear picture of a persons strengths and vulnerabilities based on referral questions. Individuals who may experience learning or attention challenges may also experience mental health concerns and therefore, comprehensive assessment can provide clarity related to the whole picture. Recommendations are provided based on the persons unique presentation and diagnosis can be provided, if warranted.
